Discussing measures to prevent invasive species of Merremia boisiana
To implement UNESCO Recommendation in Decision WHC / 17.41.COM / 7B and Official letter No. 4329 /VPUBND-VX on implementing WHC’s recommendation, on January 12th 2018, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Management Board held a seminar on measures to prevent invasive species of Merremia boisiana. Attending the seminar were managers and scientists of Institute for Agricultural Environment; Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry - Hue University; Institute for Environment and Resources; Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Danang and Quang Binh Radio and Television Station was also attended and reported.
Five speeches presented at the workshop by scientists, including: Evaluating the level of invasiveness and measures to eradicate Merremia boisiana in PN-KB National Park; Effects of controlling Merremia boisiana by infusion method; Chemical residues after eradication; Spread of Merremia boisiana; invasiveness status and measures have been taken to eradicate Merremia boisiana effectively.
The delegates analyzed the level of invasiveness, the impacts of eradication measures on ecosystems and biodiversity, economic efficiency and environment. They also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the test solution. Thence we can apply the solution and build a model of state-level research project “Research on urgent measures to prevent and treat Merremia spp in Da Nang and surrounding areas”.
In conclusion, Mr. Truong Thanh Khai – Vice Director of PNKB National Park Management Board, presided over the seminar and acknowledged and appreciated the researches and publications of the scientists. Management Board of the Park will accept the contributions and select the best option for the application. In addition, it is hoped that managers, experts and scientists will continue to cooperate and support to to select the best solution to prevent and eradicate invasive species of Merremia boisiana that are harmful to the ecosystem and biodiversity in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park./.
