Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Management Board has a meeting with the delegation of Hin Nam No National Protected Area of Laos.
Within the framework of transboundary cooperation between the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No National Protected Area, on June 23th 2015 Management Board of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park has met and worked with the delegation of Hin Nam No National Protected Area of Laos by Mr. Sisomphon Southichak (Manager of Natural Resources Management Division, Khammouane Natural Resources and Environment Department) – Head of delegation. Attending the meeting, there were Mr. Dinh Huy Tri – Deputy director of the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Management Board, Phong Nha – Ke Bang Region Project, the representatives of units under the Park and the members of the technical working group on transboundary cooperation.
Towards the general objective of strengthening transboundary cooperation on biodiversity conservation between Hin Nam No National Protected Area and Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park: “Reduce the threats to natural resources in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No National Protected Area” and “the participation of community in biodiversity conservation has contributed to improve the livelyhood”. Exchanging practical experiences between two protected areas is important to promote the information on forest protection activities and law enforcement for each other.
At the meeting, both sides have discussed and shared experiences in the main contents: Proposed a joint map of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No Protected Areas; Sharing experiences in practicing SMART software application as well as the results of the study tour on SMART software in Thailand; sharing the lessons learned from the plantation model in ethnic minority border area; the practical experience in coordinating resources management at Hin Nam No, environmental education, raising awareness in nature conservation at Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No Protected Areas.
Ending the meeting, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No Protected Areas have agreed on the main contents of building a joint map, sharing the relevant databases of both sides for promoting the joint map in transboundary cooperation activities. Beside Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No Protected Areas has get and highly appreciated the experience of communication, awareness-raising, co-management of natural resources and the implementation of SMART software in patrolling and Biodiversity Monitoring in Phong Nha – Ke Bang and Hin Nam No.
The delegation of Hin Nam No Protected Areas also visited a number of reforestation model in Xuan Trach commune, study experiences at the Botanical Garden and then working with two the Park’s Ranger Station.
